SINCE 1972
The Story of LAMB
A pioneering voice in Messianic Jewish music, carried by songs that helped shape a movement and continue to reach listeners across generations.
Explore the storyLAMB began in 1972 with Joel Chernoff as lead singer and songwriter and Rick “Levi” Coghill as guitarist and producer. Together they helped pioneer a sound that would become closely identified with modern Messianic Jewish music.
What started as a musical partnership grew into a body of work that reached far beyond its beginnings. LAMB recordings went on to sell more than 600,000 copies, with many releases reaching the Top 10 on contemporary religious music charts. Across fourteen Messianic recordings, the group helped introduce this emerging music to listeners throughout the United States and around the world.
At the center of the music was a distinctive partnership: Joel’s voice, songwriting and melodies, joined with Rick’s guitar work, arrangements and studio production. That combination gave LAMB a recognizable sound and helped establish a musical vocabulary that influenced the generations of Messianic artists who followed.
More than a catalog of recordings, LAMB became part of the soundtrack of a growing Messianic Jewish movement.
Joel Chernoff continued that musical journey as a solo artist, including the national releases The Restoration of Israel and Come Dance With Me through Galilee of the Nations.
In 2005, a new chapter began with The Sacrifice, released by Galilee of the Nations/Integrity. Joel was joined by Messianic artist Ted Pearce, whose guitar playing, vocals and songwriting brought a fresh energy to the familiar LAMB sound. The result connected the group’s musical heritage with a more contemporary expression while retaining Joel’s unmistakable voice and songwriting at its center.
Decades after LAMB first began, the music remains part of the story of Messianic Jewish worship and culture—and continues to be discovered by new listeners today.
